Maneater TV Mini-Series

Previewing Lifetime’s Summer Event

May 23, 2009 Francine Brokaw

This two-part story centers on a spoiled Beverly Hills woman whose superficiality changes as she experiences life outside the gilded gates of the rich and famous.

From Gigi Levangie Grazer, the same woman who wrote The Starter Wife, this new story delves into the Beverly Hills lifestyle with a unique character leading the action. Clarissa Alpert (Sarah Chalke) is a spoiled woman who knows everyone inside the loop of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. She is quite simply, the “it” girl. That is until time starts to take its toll.

Clarissa is about to turn 32, although she only admits to being 28. She decides it’s time she gets married, but the problem is she isn’t seriously dating anyone. While she still carries a torch for her ex-boyfriend Simon (Paul Leyden), she feels after several years it’s time to finally get over him and find the man of her dreams, which, of course, is rich, cute, and can keep her in the lifestyle to which she is accustomed.

A Whacky Group of Friends

Clarissa and her friends start planning the perfect wedding, literally. She books the location, finds the dress, and has every detail down, with the exception of the groom.

Her friends are a crazy bunch of rich, spoiled women who fit the classic conception of Beverly Hills women. They think about fashion, showing their age, and basically all the superficiality that women in the heartland of America cannot understand.

Setting a Trap for a Husband

Clarissa sets her sights on Aaron Mason (Philip Winchester), a hot new producer who has come to Los Angeles from Texas. This man is really the man of her dreams. She sets the lure and soon Aaron falls right into the trap. Her plan is foolproof, and even she ends up falling in love with this man. But when Simon re-enters her life, she has to re-examine her feelings. And does she really know who Aaron is? Is he the man he claims to be? When her parents (Maria Conchita Alonso and Gregory Harrison) take away her finances, Clarissa must decide whether she wants to finally make her own way in life or continue to lean on others.

The story is fast-paced, along with the dialogue. It’s a fun, cock-eyed tale that at times is extremely humorous. With back-stabbing, a cast of strange and interesting characters, and the backdrop of the lifestyles of the rich and famous, Maneater is a crazy yet endearing mini-series.

Gigi Levangie Grazer

Gigi Levangie Grazer knows about life in Hollywood. She is the former wife of filmmaker Brian Grazer. She wrote the best-selling book The Starter Wife, and now follows up on the lifestyle of the jet set with Maneater. This four hour event premiers on the Lifetime Network May 30 and May 31, with encore episodes to follow in June.
